MILLKOM was an exceptional racehorse, rated 124 by Time form and winner of three Group One races: the Prix Jean Prat over 9f and the Grand Prix de Paris and Man O’War Stakes, both over 10f. Millkom comes from a family of sprinters and is by the sprinter Cyrano de Bergerac.
Millkom’s half-sister was speedy enough to finish second in the Flying Childers Stakes (Gr 3) over 5f at 2, and it is no surprise that Millkom’s best son, Milk It Mick, won his Group One at two. Millkom boasts a winners to runners ratio as strong as any stallion, with a life time figure of 36 winners to 58 starters. Millkom’s pedigree is a 100% free of Northern Dancer which is huge advantage to breeders.
Milk It Mick is out of a mare by Komaite, a son of Nureyev. Nureyev’s relatives, like Sadler’s Wells, Perugino, Tate Gallery and Thatch, all look well suited to Millkom, a great-grandson of Nasrullah. Millkom himself is inbred 5x5 to Nasrullah’s son Grey Sovereign.
With a pedigree free of Northern Dancer, Millkom can be used to great effect as an outcross to the Northern Dancer line. Barathea has crossed with Cyrano de Bergerac on reverse to the effect of the listed winner Vintea. Bold Lad line mares have also had good results with Nijinsky line stallions: Niniski sired Alfora and Royal Academy sired Tiger Royal out of Bold Lad mares. Daughters of Sadler’s Wells should also work to effect with the smart performer Imperial Ballet being out of a Bold Lad mare.
